Australia is one of the most biologically unique and diverse countries in the world. Despite this, the island continent lists 480 animals and 1,294 plants as threatened. As part of a coordinated response, Senior Research Manager, Dr Carolyn Hogg, and the team at the Australasian Wildlife Genomics Group at the University of Sydney, are working to save species such as the much-loved Tasmanian Devil with a solution developed in partnership with RONIN and AWS. In the race against time to save this marsupial from the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), researchers have reduced the time it takes to sequence genomic data from 10 days to 6 hours, whilst also maximising conservation dollars to continue the fight.
