Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics tells us that 2.36 million Australians have low levels of English literacy and Telstra’s 2019 Australian Digital Inclusion Index identified that low English literacy was a barrier for recent migrants to access services online. In this session we show how Telstra and the AWS Prototyping team created a toolkit that can add multi-lingual voice control to any website. We share how prototyping can be used to implement an ambitious solution through thoughtful innovation, how high-level AWS machine learning services can be combined in interesting ways to deliver innovative and inclusive user interfaces, and how Telstra is working to address barriers to inclusion in Australia.
